II. KNOW THE DATES

GENERAL

• Puerto Rico does not hold midterm elections as residents cannot vote for members of U.S. Congress. Puerto Rico’s next general election will be held on November 5, 2024. 

Voter Registration Deadline

• Puerto Rican residents must register to vote in person at a Permanent Registration Board of your municipality or election precinct.

Absentee Ballots

Ballot Request Deadlines:

• Absentee ballot requests must be submitted on or before 45 days prior to Election Day.

Ballot Return Deadlines:

• Absentee ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received on or before the last day of the general canvass.

Absentee ballots are only available to certain residents - see if you match the criteria outlined here.

IV. WHERE TO VOTE

Polling Location:

• Contact your Permanent Registration Board for information on polling locations.

V. WHAT TO TAKE TO THE POLLS

Voter ID Laws:

• If you were born in Puerto Rico and will be 18 years old before the next election, you must submit either a photo ID or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number, as wll as proof of residence via an invoice from the Electric Power Authority (AEE).
• If you were not born in Puerto Rico, view this list of documents required to register to vote.

Accepted Credentials:

Don't have a valid ID?

• Contact your Permanent Registration Board for information on what to do if you don't have the necessary documentation to obtain a voter identification card.
